3rd SM Eco Bag

As part of SM’s response to government solid waste management legislation, various plastics ordinances, and the internal direction for our business to operate sustainably, the 3^rd SM Eco Bag was launched simultaneously in all 41 SM malls nationwide.

The Eco Bag and the Sando Bag, priced Php 35.00 and Php 10.00 respectively, are recyclable hard wearing non-woven fabric bags that may last up to two years of weekly use. They are made of 100-percent polypropylene, which is non-toxic, allergy free and non-reactive to human skin.

To encourage shoppers to advocate re-usable shopping bags for all shopping purposes, the Eco Bag booth is stationed at the Northwing near Toy Kingdom and Global Pinoy Center of SM City Bacolod.

The use of SM Eco Bag campaign aims to address the issue of deforestation by reducing the amount of plastic waste and limits further landfill expansion.  It also supports the United Nations’ call to celebrate 2011 as The International Year of the Forests.

Proceeds of the bag sales will go to the various tree-planting projects of SM Supermalls in partnership with the United Nations and the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Forestry.

With this year’s theme, “I am involved,” the new Eco Bag communicates the importance of being involved and taking action in helping save the environment. For three years now, the SM Supermalls continue to do its part for the environment by creating the green bag movement.

SM Advantage and Prestige Card holders will be given two (2) extra reward points every time they use the Eco Bag and Sando Bag for groceries at SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket and Savemore.
