The SM Supermalls Committee on Youth and Children’s Welfare will hold a National Children’s Book Day on July 19, Tuesday at 10:30am at the North Atrium of SM City Bacolod simultaneously with 40 other SM malls in the Philippines and China.

Now on its third year of committed service in promoting an environment of continuous learning and values education, the event will be highlighted by a book reading of Dr. Jose Rizal’s “Ang Pagong at ang Matsing” in commemoration of the national hero’s 150th birth anniversary. This will be attended by students from the Department of Education of Bacolod City headed by City Schools Superintendent Gemma Ledesma and the Bacolod Christian Center. Ryan Gamboa of ABS-CBN’s Salandigan and entrepreneur Raffy Catalan will be the book readers.

SM Foundation will also be donating more than 500 books to the Bacolod City Library Hub which caters 46 public schools in Bacolod. In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), the National Book Development Board (NBDB), Vibal Publishing, BDO Foundation, SM Foundation and Inquirer Read-Along, the National Children’s Book Day aims to cultivate a habit for reading that would further boost a child’s development and improve literacy.

TV hosts Carmela Gamboa and Honey Grace Catalan of ABS-CBN were the celebrity guests during the National Children's Book Day at SM City Bacolod last year.
The Committee on Youth and Children’s Welfare is under the SM Cares Program, the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program of SM Supermalls which was launched in 2008.
