SM City Bacolod’s Environment Committee, in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), West Negros University, Negros Occidental High School Batch ’96, GIZ Weltwaerts Volunteers, planted 50 Knife Acacia seedlings at the West Negros University Eco Garden in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City recently.
Dubbed “Deep Thrusts,” the tree planting activity is part of the continuous efforts of SM in promoting environmental awareness in areas where SM malls operate. It aims to promote eco-friendly and sustainable development programs, and help combat the flooding problem in the city.
Around 30 volunteers led by Sharon Pepito and Henry Phillip Laurella of West Negros University and Miro Wurtius of GIZ Weltwaerts – the German Society for International Cooperation joined together in planting the seedlings on a one hectare eco garden. The seedlings will be nurtured by the management of West Negros Eco Garden to ensure its life survival.
The Province of Negros Occidental and Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently recognized SM City Bacolod as an Environment-friendly Business Establishment during the 19th Provincial Environment Week.
As a business entity, SM is not only concerned about profit, but also in increasing efficiency and savings which can only be accomplished by tapping natural resources and addressing environmental concerns. The company believes that going green is profitable and good for business, and for its customers.
