In celebration of the National Children’s Book Day, around 80 pupils of the Educational Technology Center School and Bacolod Christian Center participated in the book reading session held by the SM Supermalls Committee on Youth and Children’s Welfare at the mall’s North Atrium.

“With more than 3 million customers going to our malls daily and approximately 1.3 million being children, we have put it upon ourselves to make our malls not just child-friendly but more importantly an avenue for a kid’s growth and learning.” said SM Assistant Mall Manager and committee chair Julia Javellana. “SM has grown beyond shopping, entertainment, and leisure.  We have grown to be venues for affirmative action and social development. We have grown into becoming instruments for caring for children,” she added.

ABS-CBN TV host Ryan Gamboa, Entrepreneur Raffy Catalan and Banco De Oro Branch Manager Jose Froilan Udarbe were the storytellers of Ang Pagong at ang Matsing, Laruang Papel and Isa Dalawa Tatlo, respectively. 

The Bacolod Library Hub also received more than 500 books from SM Foundation. Mrs. Normy Canja, Division Library Hub and ICT Coordinator of the Department of Education said the books will be utilized by the 46 public school in the city and help augment book shortage problem.

There were also dance and song entertainment provided by the SM Little Stars regional finalists and Pizza Hut’s Pooch mascot.

Together with partners from the Department of Education (DepEd), SM Foundation, Inquirer Read-Along, the National Book Development Board (NBDB), Vibal Publishing, BDO Foundation, the National Children’s Book Day aimed to cultivate a habit for reading that would further boost a child’s development at an early age.
