In celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 150th Birth Anniversary, SM City Bacolod in cooperation with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines holds the national hero’s exhibit at the mall’s East Bridgeway which will run until June 19, 2011.
A chronology of events in Rizal’s life, the exhibit begins with June 19, 1861 when Jose Mercado is born to Teodora Alonso and Francisco Mercado, the 7th of the 11th children in Calamba, Laguna. The family adopts the surname Rizal from the Spanish racial meaning green fields. It also features photos of Rizal’s significant memorabilia, artworks, and landmarks as well as travels abroad. It also showcases the photos of the Rizal Family and his friends.
