In Cooperation with Bato Balani Foundation (BBFI), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Book Development Board (NBDB), Children International Philippines Inc. and the Negros Press Club (NPC), SM Foundation once again launched the Donate-A-Book project that invites SM shoppers to donate old books.

The donation booth is located at the North main entrance of SM City Bacolod and the campaign will run until May 20, 2011.

Donate-A-Book aims to address the continuing problem of book shortage in public schools and libraries as donated books will be distributed to the different barangays in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental province to help augment scarce supply of books in public educational institutions.

This outreach program is among the four areas of advocacy of SM Foundation, Inc. SM Foundation, the socio civic arm of the SM Group of Companies through which it helps the less fortunate in the communities it serves. Others are education, health and religious projects.

Since SM opened in Bacolod last 2007, SM Foundation has allocated books to 26 Day Care centers, public elementary and secondary schools in the city. It also turned over more than 7,000 books in Cauayan and Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

Through this, SM intends to improve the quality of life and opportunities for positive change in urban and rural communities.

Cash donations will also be accepted to help improve the facilities and educational materials of DSWD-run Day Care centers. Those interested can deposit their cash donations at Banco de Oro Account No. 90101219.
