SM City Bacolod held the launching of THE INAUGURAL photo exhibit and book presentation at the mall’s Northwing Event Centre recently. The exhibit will be available for SM shoppers until April 20.


THE INAUGURAL, which is based on the book published by President Benigno Aquino III’s campaign media bureau Maria V. Montelibano, chronicles the campaign of President Aquino, son of President Corazon C. Aquino and assassinated political leader Benigno Aquino, Jr., through images by senior photojournalists and accounts written by participants of the unusual, volunteer-powered campaign that brought him to the presidency.  The photographs and accounts in the book are witness to the making of a president by the phenomenon the world has come to understand as People Power.

 
Board Member of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental Patrick Lacson, Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito, Negrense Volunteers for Change vice president Pilar Mendezona, SM assistant mall manager Julia Javellana, and Dr. Mary Joan Gidor who represented the publisher Maria V. Montelibano cut the ribbon that officially opened the photo exhibit. 

Also present during the event were Silay City Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibano, Executive Assistant to the Governor Manuel Escalante, Mr. Rene De Asis who represented Congressman Anthony Golez of the Lone District of Bacolod City, Bacolod City councilors Catalino Alisbo, Jose Carlos Lopez, Sonia Verdeflor, Elcid Familiaran, Provincial Planning Coordinator Marlin Sanogal and Bacolod Tourism Officer Imogene Kana-an.

 

The Negrense Volunteers for Change Board of Trustees Bambi Hilado Lina Hilado, Girl Cuaycong, Joe Cajili, Msgr. Gigi Gaston and Angeli Milan also attended the event. The volunteer Groups namely Tuloy Pinoy Negros, Quidan Kaisahan, Negros for Noynoy Movement, Federation of Urban Poor, CM Govern, National Coalition of Progressive Forces and Yellow Power were also present.
 

The Colegio San Agustin Bacolod Chorale sung Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika and Tagumpay Nating Lahat during the opening production and finale, respectively, while the Kanlaon Theater Guild Bboys performed the Tie a Yellow Ribbon breakdance. Negros Press Club president Elmer John Ubaldo hosted the event.


THE INAUGURAL was first launched last February 17 at The Block at SM City North EDSA as part of the EDSA 25th Anniversary celebrations. Vice President Jejomar Binay and Ms. Viel Aquino-Dee were the guests of honor in the event attended by government officials, People Power Commission members, as well as friends and relatives of the Aquino family.

The exhibit will also be showcased at SM City Cagayan De Oro, SM City Davao, SM City Baguio, SM City Tarlac, SM City Naga and the SM Mall of Asia.
