To continue and sustain SM’s efforts in prioritizing the welfare of the senior citizens, SM City Bacolod has partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in conducting the Seminar on How to Start a Business among the officers and members of the Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of Bacolod (FSCAB) recently.

The seminar, which aimed to guide the senior citizens on how to invest and manage their finances for 2011, was conducted by Provincial Director Rebecca Rascon of the Department of Trade and Industry-Negros Occidental.

Part of the event was the Celebrity Seniors where birthday celebrators for the month blew cake candles while the group sang “Happy Birthday”. The celebrators were Leonila Jarder, Corazon Fernandez, Marietta Estraver, Josefina Reparado, Genoveva Molanida and Crispin Laverga Jr. The next batch of birthday celebrators will be treated on February 8 when the next Seniors’ Day at the mall will be held in celebration of Valentines’ Day.

Meanwhile, SM Supermalls recognizes the senior market as one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country thus it is only fitting that due care and recognition be given to them. SM believes that the plight of the elders of our society must be given priority.

SM has also improved its mall facilities to be elderly-friendly by creating priority lanes for the senior citizens, priority seating signages for the elderly and other priority notices have been strategically installed in SM malls to remind the public to always give the elderly the respect and care they deserve.
