This month’s Seniors Day at the mall featured a Parol-making Workshop that taught the members of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of Bacolod how to make a Parol, an iconic symbol of Philippine Christmas lantern. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Patrick Payumo, a fellow senior citizen and a former kagawad of Brgy. Singcang, Bacolod City.

In celebration of the Christmas Season, the workshop aims to encourage the senior citizens to design their own Christmas lantern in a very Filipino way.

Meanwhile, the Senior Citizens Association of Brgy. Dionisio headed by Mr. Jimmy Chua was recognized by SM for being the “early birds” to arrive at the event. The group was also awarded for having the most numbered members.

The next Seniors' Day at the mall will be held on December 7, 2010 at 2PM at the Northwing Event Centre. Themed “SeniorSMerriment with Kids on Christmas”, next month's event will give senior citizens the opportunity to share their blessings with the less fortunate children.

SM Supermalls, the largest mall operator in the Philippines with 40 malls nationwide, value the contributions the senior citizens have made in the society. SM has given them due care and recognition by means of improving its mall facilities to be elderly-friendly, creating priority lanes for the senior citizens, priority seating signages for the elderly and other priority notices have been strategically installed in SM malls to remind the public to always give the elderly the respect and care they deserve.
