In celebration of the City of Smiles' 31st MassKara Festival, SM City Bacolod sets various events at the mall to highlight the festivity of the season.
A festival tourism booth was organized by SM Department Store Bacolod at the arrival area of the New Bacolod Silay Airport to welcome local and foreign tourists who come to witness the world-famous MassKara Festival.
The revelry at SM City Bacolod kicked off with the My City My SM campaign that featured Raymund Javellana of The Ruins Mansion and Mary Ann Colmenares, Cathy Sicangco-Hagad, Christina Gaston and Josephine Locsin of the Association of Negros Producers who promoted the attractions, festivals, history, culture, lifestyle and products of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental Province.
The affair capped with Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson leading a toast and announcing the opening of the MassKara Festival 2010. Also present were Lone District of Bacolod Congressman Anthony Golez Jr., Councilors Em Ang, Al Victor Espino, Roberto Rojas, Carlos Jose Lopez, Caesar Distrito and Executive Assistant to the Mayor Moises Dela Cruz.
The “IT's in the Smile” MassKara-Making Competition applying modern and futuristic techniques and designs was launched on October 9 at 6PM at the North Al Fresco where the mask entries of Engineering and Fine Arts students will be displayed until October 19.

The MassKara Cosplay & Photo Blogging Competition showcased cosplayers in their best manga, anime, comic books, video game and fantasy movie character portrayal on October 10 at the Event Centre.
Now on its third year, the SM Department Store's Design Your Own MassKara Slippers Contest is open to all shoppers with a minimum purchase of P500 from Shoes, Bags and Luggage Departments inclusive of any style of Beachwalk slippers which will be used as the official entry.
Interested applicants must present the tape receipt as proof of purchase at the registration area located at the Shoes' Department of SM Department Store Bacolod. Each entry must be wearable and should depict the MassKara Festival theme. Criteria for judging are Originality 40%, Relevance to Festival Theme 30%, Use of color and indigenous materials 20%, Overall Appeal 10%.
A P5,000 worth of SM Gift Card will be given each to the Grand Prize Winners in Men's, Ladies' and Children's categories. Deadline of submission will be on October 16. Announcement and awarding of winners will be on October 17 at 4PM at the Event Centre of SM City Bacolod.
There will also be a MassKara Sale on October 13-19 and SMAC Double Your Reward Points for every P1,000 single receipt purchase from October 7-20. Shoppers will be treated up to 50% discount on great selections.
In cooperation with GMA Network, the GMA Kapuso Night will be held on October 15 at 6 PM at the Event Centre. This MassKara Celebration with GMA Kapuso Stars will feature popular TV shows like Grazilda, Trudis Liit, Comedy Bar & Survivor Philippines - Celebrity Edition. GMA Celebrities Glaiza de Castro, Geoff Eigenmann, and Jillian Ward will entertain Bacoleños and Negrenses in a live performance.
The MassKara festivity will be highlighted by SM Department Store Bacolod's Mario D’ Boro guest endorsers Japanese-Brazilian models Daniel Matsunaga and Fabio Ide who will render a song number and meet and greet fans on October 17 at 5PM at the Event Centre.

The celebration will culminate with the fusion of rhythm in the Sigaboom Competition on October 19 at 6PM at the N1-B Carpark of SM City Bacolod. The pioneer in drumbeating competition in Negros island which is now on its 4th year, the Sigaboom 2010 of SM City Bacolod continues to showcase the pinoy’s genuine talent for drum playing, choreographed dancing, merging ethnic and modern styles and costumes.
