As part of SM's commitment to give utmost importance to the elderly, the mall initiated the Art Fundamental Workshop for Senior Citizens conducted by the Art Association of Bacolod (AAB) to the community members of the San Sebastian Cathedral and the city's Federation of Senior Citizens Associations, recently.

Mr. Rafael “Paeng” Paderna, one of the most respected artists in the city and former president of AAB, lectured on Basics of Art and the Human Anatomy and Composition which guided the participants in creating their work of art. AAB officers namely Sony Golez, Rodney Martinez, Jeffrey Montaño, Jane Sequijor and Noel Etabag were also present and extended assistance to the elderly.

Having witnessed the enjoyment of the senior citizens, the AAB became enthusiastic about the workshop that they pledged full support to SM in its future activities for the elderly. Paderna lauded such project of SM that focused on the welfare of the elderly by giving them recreation and at the same time discover and enhance their talent.

Meanwhile, SM Supermalls recognizes the senior market as one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country thus it is only fitting that due care and recognition be given to them. SM believes that the plight of the elders must be given priority for they are important and productive members of the society. SM has also improved its mall facilities to be elderly-friendly by creating priority lanes for the senior citizens, priority seating signages for the elderly and other priority notices have been strategically installed in SM malls to remind the public to always give the elderly the respect and care they deserve.
