To address the continuing problem of book shortage in public schools and libraries, SM Foundation, Inc. once again sets up the Donate A Book booth at the Northwing Lobby of SM City Bacolod.

The campaign that urges SM shoppers to donate old and new books will run until May 21, 2010. Shoppers may drop off their book anytime from 10AM to 9PM.

The donated books will be distributed to the different barangays in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental province to help augment scarce supply of books in public educational institutions.

This successful book donation campaign has collected over 2.4 million books nationwide and benefited 10,000 public schools and libraries in areas where SM Supermalls operates.

This outreach program is among the four areas of advocacy of SM Foundation, Inc. SM Foundation, the socio civic arm of the SM Group of Companies through which it helps the less fortunate in the communities it serves. Others are education, health and religious projects.

For the last three years that SM has opened in Bacolod, SM Foundation has allocated books to 26 Day Care centers, public elementary and secondary schools in the city. It also turned over more than 7,000 books in Cauayan and Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

Through this, SM intends to improve the quality of life and opportunities for positive change in urban and rural communities.

Cash donations will also be accepted to help improve the facilities and educational materials of DSWD-run Day Care centers. Those interested can deposit their cash donations at Banco de Oro Account No. 90101219.
